a question about email and credit card fraud?

Rachel B asked:

I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately claiming that there has been “irregular activity” on my account, and I needed to email back to give my account information, such as the number, etc., and saying my account would be closed unless I did this.

At first, I just ignored them because they were “companies” I never heard of. But today, I got the same type of email from a company claiming to be my actual credit card company. They needed my card #, verification code, expiration date. They are threatening to close my account if I don’t give them the info. But if they have that info, why would I need to verify? Do you think this is a scam?

World of Warcraft Credit Card Fraud?

Ender asked:

I play a game called World of Warcraft where you pay a monthly subscription fee of $14.99. My account was hacked (Stolen) in which my login information to the game’s website was changed, LUCKILY I didn’t have my credit card information on file for the account. The person that stole my account changed the log in information and made it so that I could no longer access the account along with signing up with their credit card for the monthly service charge, now I have regained access to the account and their information is on file. Am I legally prosecutable for not WILLFULLY dis-enrolling them from automatic payment for the account that they stole from me?

dealing w/ credit card fraud from a service apartment?

vr_cerbera asked:

I have a feeling that citybaseapartments.com or central-london-apartments.com has charged extra stuff on my credit card. I booked a room w/ them. First, they charged the deposit twice. Also, I have other unauthorized charges that are from Europe. Has anyone else experienced problems w/ them?

If I cancel on them based on a very strong belief that they’re the ones who made unauthorized charges on my card, how do I go about saying it? They charge a lot for last minute cancellation. thanks ppl!

believe me, i’m pretty sure it’s them. the other suspect would be a b&b, who has been honest & straightforward from the start. but the apartment guys… well you’d have to book through them to find out what i mean.
i’m talking about cancelling the whole booking as well. they charge you for that. and the credit card company always asks me to talk directly to merchant first.
