Do employees get penalized for a credit card fraud chargeback to the store?

Dennis Rio asked:

I work at a well known pharmacy and range up what i believe now to be someone who used a stolen credit card to purchase a few expensive gift cards. Can i be held accountable for the losses or is the pharmacy under insurance/ pays for the losses. Can it be routed back to me? Just wondering.
Well i didnt suspect until the next transaction and by the time i called for my manager it was over. And by merchants you mean the store itself? Or the corporation that owns all of the pharmacies since there are 100′s
can i possibly be fired though?
