credit card fraud protection

Does a lost driver’s license have anything to do with credit card fraud?

sunsetparadise asked:

I lost my driver’s license a little while back and learned today that someone’s been using my credit card(I never lost my credit card, I still have it in my wallet) in another faraway state. My question is, can my lost driver’s license be related to this credit card incident? I am planning on replacing my license ASAP, but I need all the info I can get on this matter. I’m so stressed out, please help!

no, finding your license is unlikely to allow someone to perpetrate credit card fraud.

it could. You need to report your card lost or stolen so you will have a new account number. Also put a Fraud Alert on your credit report at the credit agency (TransUnion, etc.). That will make it very hard for anyone to get credit using your identity.

The info on your driver’s license could be used to open new accounts. It would not give them access to your existing credit card. You may want to put a fraud alert on your credit report.

Contact your credit card company and dispute the charge (do it in writing). They will investigate and reverse the charge. You may even want to ask for a new account number.

my guess is they opened a credit card by getting your SSI#.it can be related if you have the SSI# on your liscense.when you replace it,have the RMV issue a state liscense # instead.also call up the company and have the card shut off.also call the bureaus and place a fraud alert on your report.they will automatically send it to the other agencies.make sure that they have all your correct info so if more loans or credit are opened, they will contact you first.I think the fraud alert is good for 60-90 days before you have to call them again.good luck!have the cc company issue you a new card.
