Sweetie asked:
Two people used my credit cards without my consent. I filed a police report and they were arrested and jailed for 7 weeks. Their hearing is on Jan. 14 and I want to drop the charges even though they already confessed to everything. I was told that as long as I filed a police report I was OK. If I drop the charges now will my credit be ruined or is it still fraud?

Why would you want to drop the charges and let these people go free?

It’s possible. The real question is why would you let someone get away with it? I guess if you’re credit is hurt by it it’s no longer their fault … remember … you let them go..

Somebody has to pay this bill. That’s what the credit card companies want. If the bill is not paid and you decide not to prosecute it might hurt your credit.
You should prosecute because if they broke the law they belong in jail.

You probably don’t have the option of ‘dropping the charges’. If you try and change your story, you’ll be the one in trouble.
Don’t intervene, let the chips fall where they may.

Why would you want to drop charges, you are lettin them getting away with it if you do this. These two people had never once think about your feelings when they went ahead with their credit fraud. Don’t feel sorry for them. If you drop the charges, they’ll never learn a lesson and do it again to other people

This is an issue that you would have to take up with your credit card company. The legal system has no say in whether or not your credit is effected. I would call them and see what they say before you let those guys off the hook. Bad credit can haunt you for a lonnnnng time.

I’m guessing they were friends of yours.Tell me this much. Are they sorry enough to pay the bill? Do you actually think they will care if you are in debt? If this were to cause you to be thrown out on the street because you could not pay your other bills, would they put a roof over your head. They only looked at you as a pay day and not as a friend. They will tell you anything you want to hear if it means it will save their a$$.Don’t screw this one up.Theft is one of the hardest crimes to convict someone of.If you drop the charges not only are you wasting 7 weeks of the cops time, you are also sending a message to anyone out there that if they steal from you they can charm their way out of it.I can also guarantee you that if you ever stole from them they would not drop any charges at all.I’ve been dealing with thieves since I was seven years old. They steal anything from anybody and act like its so &%#( up when somebody has them arrested. But if anything gets stolen from them they are on the phone with the cops in a heart beat.
