Husband’s ex wife accused him of credit card fraud?

foursweetskunks asked:

Ok, my husband and I are, to put it mildly, on the rocks. Mostly because he has a crazy ex-wife (the things she does sound like a bad Lifetime movie). Anyhow, she filed a police report claiming he opened credit cards in her name and that he had items purchased on those cards sent to our house. Now, he is a professional in his late 30s with a solid career and no criminal background, and I am also. Anyway, I had nothing to do with this credit card stuff because, frankly, I don’t want to go to jail and even though I don’t like the woman I don’t want to get arrested because of her! The police asked my husband to come in voluntarily for questioning. He did, then they told him “if your wife did it, we’ll get her!” Now, since we have had problems I have been staying with relatives on and off in another city, and the neighbors can verify that. I don’t think my husband did it, but I also don’t want anyone to think that I did it. I am sure noone can link me to accepting packages or even. . .
of being home when some of these items bought with the fraudulent credit cards were delivered. However, I honestly don’t know if my husband got so tired of her bs that he did it or not. I want to protect myself, too. My husband got an attorney and he said he may be able to get someone to look at the IP addresses that the items were ordered from and that sort of thing, but how likely is this to become a big deal? Should I get an attorney myself, even though I haven’t been accused? How thoroughly will the police investigate?

Is it credit card fraud or stupid thinking?

Samantha P asked:

My credit card was used by my friend for one purchase, after that she endd up using it for things like gas, food etc, and i didnt know anything about it, and she ran up a bill of 5000 dollars, is it stupid thinking that i can take legal action or do i have to just suck it up and deal with it, i reported the card stolen today but its been 2 months that i have known about this, there are not recepits because most purchases were gas purchases etc and food…so what should i do from here?
but i had to report it stolen so i dont get how would i get in trouble..is this something that could get her in trouble or is it something that is just giong to make me have to learn my lesson and never lend it out again
but what is a police report going to do to her or me?

What credit card fraud cases are SERIOUSLY investigated by the bank? Ie. make them want a police report?

edboucher83 asked:

Is there a certain dollar amount that makes them investigate? Would a $5,000 fraud on a card be enough for them to really investigate on it’s own?

Have heard of cases from others where the bank just had them sign the forms and that was that. Others they wanted a police report too. Basically what makes the situation one or the other? Is it a dollar amount? Or is it something else that makes them think they can recover funds, such as some detail of how it went missing/got compromised?

Also have a related question up involving local police if anyone wants to answer that too.
Andrea T: In short, card was missing/stolen months back and run up for about $5,000. Standard CC forms were delivered, signed, and returned.

Basically want to know if this means the bank is actively investigating, and if local police will really do anything in this situation.

Like say does this mean the bank is going to get the security camera tapes (or better yet, has a lead due to tapes), and will the local police do anything based on the info? Or is any similar scenario in play? Bank people tend to be vague sometimes (or some at least).
To the suspicious person: Not an issue of filing it or not, just want to know if this means they are serious about it. I know of a couple cases where no police report was required, which is another reason I am asking. If it was what you suspect I would be asking a lawyer, not Yahoo Answers.

Thanks for being so vigilant.

If I decide not to prosecute someone for credit card fraud will my credit be ruined?

Sweetie asked:

Two people used my credit cards without my consent. I filed a police report and they were arrested and jailed for 7 weeks. Their hearing is on Jan. 14 and I want to drop the charges even though they already confessed to everything. I was told that as long as I filed a police report I was OK. If I drop the charges now will my credit be ruined or is it still fraud?
