Can I sue a business for credit card fraud because they didn’t check ID?

high_voltage327 asked:

I had someone steal my purse and use my credit card at one store 3 TIMES at 3 different registers and none of the cashier’s looked at the back of my card to compare signatures or ask for ID, even though I have written “CHECK ID” next to my signature on the back. I was wondering if I could hold the store liable for not using precautions to avoid this and allowing the person to use my credit card at 3 registers including the jewelry department.
The bill was about $300 and the person used the card at one store, 3 different registers, all within one hour.

Credit card fraud how to catch the person?

J-Rizzle KEKEK asked:

So I am totally unsure about this, my parents own a small restaurant and we had a credit card machine for around 1 year, my dad never opens the merchant service mails untill last week, the letter said that someone filed a credit card fraud and 2 times as we look at the date of the transaction we found the recipe of the payment and it was both same person signature paid with different cards, and they filed for a refund both time.

My question is if this person comes back, We know who it is and wanted to know what we can do to help stop the person.

Are merchants at all held responsible when credit card fraud occurs and they don’t bother verifying ID?

nipsy3 asked:

I can understand not noticing a forged signature, or something like that, but most merchants accept unsigned cards or even cards signed “CHECK ID” and never bother looking. When I worked at a department store, I was never once told I had to check ID, even though I know I should have. Obviously, fraudulent purchases are refunded, but its the principal of the matter. Shouldn’t they be held liable in some way? I guess one would have to prove that an attempt of ID wasn’t verified, and a criminal would be taking a risk using an unsigned or “check ID” card, so that would be unlikely. Nothing like this has ever happened to me, I just get irritated when underpaid, undertrained, underqualified, undereducated people aren’t checking my credit card.

Am I Responsible For Paying for Credit Card Fraud?

Troy F asked:

Recently at work we had a customer use a pre-paid credit card to purchase about $300 of product. The card was manually entered into the system, which it was also accepted and charged. We have the persons name and signature, but they are disputing the use of the card and the $300 they spent. The company sees this as my fault and has taken corrective action on me and is planning to take the money out of my paycheck? Is that legal?
